It looks like Capcom are about to unveil a new zombie game at E3 next week, but maybe not the one fans were most excited about.
One of the big rumours for next week’s E3 is that Capcom will unveil a new Resident Evil sequel or reboot, but there’s actually not much hard evidence for that. But there are now leaked screenshots for Dead Rising 4.
The images you see here come from website ThisGenGaming, with a second source describing the game as a remake – despite it being set during the winter and no sign of a massive Dawn of the Dead style shopping centre (although maybe that’s one in the cover art image?).
That is definitely original hero Frank West though, and according to Kotaku the setting is the same as the first game: Willamette, Colorado.
The original report states that developer Capcom Vancouver is ‘likely’ to stop using their own graphics engine and instead switch to Unreal Engine 4. Dead Rising 4 will, like Dead Rising 3, be an Xbox One exclusive, but will also come to Windows 10.
The most enticing news though is talk of a four-player co-op mode, which should suit the game nicely. That means you’ll still be able to play as previous protagonists Chuck, Nick, and Annie.
Whether any of this makes a Resident Evil reveal at E3 more or less likely is hard to say. A recent financial report from Capcom suggests they have two major unannounced titles underway, one that’s expected to sell 2 million copies and another that’s supposed to sell 4 million.
At the time that was imagined to be Resident Evil and possibly a new Dead Rising, but that doesn’t make it any easier to guess whether both will be unveiled next week.
The ThisGenGaming report does suggest that Microsoft will also unveil fellow zombie game State of Decay 2 though, something that has also been rumoured for a while.
