Akihabara is well known as a otaku paradise with plenty of shops catering to anime goods among the more electronic superstores and crane machine arcades. The district is already relatively close to the Kanda Myōjin Shrine, a shinto shrine that "hired" Love Live!'s Nozomi as a shrine maiden mascot after she appeared as one in the anime series.
Akihabara will welcome a new shrine next month. The location is a seven minute walk from the Yamanote line's Akihabara Station. The proprietors are paying 1,200 yen (US$11) an hour for one part-time shrine maiden to fulfill the usual duties like selling amulets and fortunes. No prior experience is necessary, but they do ask that applicants fulfill one other duty unique to the shrine. The miko will perform memorial services for figures and figurines.
Details on what is included in a memorial service for an inanimate object aren't provided. Nor is there an example of what a "dead" figure looks like.
