It was announced that "Tales of Zestiria the X" will be airing in July and that Japanese pop band fhána will be performing the ending song for the series.
The Anime News Network reported the announcement, made by Bandai Namco on the "Tales of Zestiria the X" website in Japanese, indicating that "Tales of Zestiria the X" will air as part of the Summer 2016 anime offerings.
fhána will also perform the anime's ending song, right alongside Japanese rock band FLOW who will perform the opening song.
"Tales of Zestiria the X" will function as the anime version of Bandai Namco's "Tales of Zestiria" video game released last year. The "X" in the title is read as "cross," which means that the title wholly reads "Tales of Zestiria the Cross," and the series will retell the events of the video game in animated format.
The anime will retain most of the game's cast of voice talents — Ryohei Kimura as Sorey, Ryota Ohsaka as Mikleo, Ai Kayano as Alisha, Mikako Komatsu as Rose, Misato Fukuen as Edna, Daisuke Ono as Dezel and Kenjiro Tsuda as Zaveid.
Noriko Shitawa replaced Miyu Matsuki as Lailah, due to the latter's passing away last October.
"Tales of Zestiria" tells the story of Sorey, a human with the ability to interact with spiritual beings called Seraph. Normally unseen, Sorey's connection to Seraphs grant him mysterious power and eventually propel him into the role of Shepherd as the world's savior.
Ufotable animated the series, the studio's second work on the "Zestiria" title. Ufotable previously developed the "Tales of Zestiria: Dawn of the Shepherd" made-for-TV anime film in 2014. "Dawn of the Shepherd" animated the game's first couple of hours, serving as a special promotion for the game.
"Tales of Zestiria the X" will also be the "Tales" series' third full anime series adaptation and sixth overall animated adaptation after 2009's "Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike" film.
Catch the "Tales of Zestiria the X" anime July.
