Over 780 aftershocks have occurred in the Kyusyu area
In addition to Eiichiro Oda introduced Tuesday, many Japanese manga artists have been showing their support to the victims of the Kumamoto Earthquake with newly drawn illustrations. 29-yea-old Hajime Isayama, the creator of the internationally successful series Attack on Titan, is one of them. As with Oda (Kumamoto), he was born in the Kyusyu area (Oita), where has been severely damaged by the quakes. He has posted a new illustration featuring Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and Kumamoto Prefecture's mascot character Kumamon and Oita's Mejiron on his official blog.
According to the Meteorological Agency, over 780 aftershocks have been detected registering at or over a seismic intensity of 1 since last Saturday when the first big earthquake with a seismic intensity of 7 occurred. So far 48 people found dead, over 1,200 are injured, and at least 10,000 houses were destroyed in Kumamoto and Oita.
Meanwhile, the regular edition of the latest 19th volume of Isayama's Attack on Titan series now ranks No.1 in
the Oricon weekly comic sales chart. The volume was released in Japan on April 8, and its regular edition has
sold an impressive 1,133,381 copies in its first two weeks.
