Live-action drama contains original scene
Shogakukan published this year's 10th issue of its Sho-Comi magazine on Wednesday, and it bundled a DVD that included both a live-action drama and movie comic adapation of Miwako Sugiyama's 4-Gatsu no Kimi, Spicaromance manga.
Shogakukan previously streamed a video previewing both adaptations last week.
The live-action drama stars Tomu Fujita as Taiyō Udagawa, Misato Kawauchi as Sei Saotome, and Kōji Kominami as Mizuki Ōtaka. While the live-action drama adapts select scenes from the manga, it also contains an original scene. The DVD also contains behind-the-scenes footage for the live-action drama.
The movie comic casts Takuma Terashima as Taiyō Udagawa, Asuka Ōgame as Sei Saotome, and Yuichiro Umehara as Mizuki Ōtaka. The movie comic uses the original manga's panels and adds voiced dialogue.
The manga centers on Sei Saotome, a high school girl who has just failed an exam, and began going to a prep school to study for her next one. She can't keep up with her studies, and talking to her friends is awkward, so she thinks this is the end of her high school life. However, she meets two boys: Mizuki, a silent and handsome boy who likes astronomy; and Taiyō, a foul-mouthed prodigy who is at the top of his class. Both are planning to enter the astronomy club, and they invite her. Sei's everyday life is still spent trying to find a place to belong, but it is about to to become brighter.
Sugiyama launched the manga in the combined third and fourth 2015 issue of Sho-Comi. Shogakukan published the manga's fourth compiled book volume on March 25. Before 4-Gatsu no Kimi, Spica, Sugiyama launched her latest manga series, True Love, in Sho-Comi in 2012, and concluded it in 2014, with Shogakukan publishing seven compiled book volumes for the series.
