23-year-old illustrator Sidu debuts as anime director in film project
The official website of songwriter and manga creator JIN's Kagerou Project mixed-media project revealed on Thursday that ultraCeep Inc. and Aniplex will launch a collaborative project to produce a theatrical anime titledMX4D Kagerou Daze -in a days-, based on JIN's Kagerou Daze novel series. The production claims the anime is the first "short movie" in Japan to be produced exclusively with MX4D presentation in mind.
Sidu, the 23-year-old illustrator of the Kagerou Daze novels and JIN's Kagerou Project music videos, will make her anime directorial debut on the film. The film is slated to open in winter this year at TOHO Cinemas' MX4D theaters across Japan.
With the 4DX or MX4D systems, certain theaters have motion seats that move in sync with certain action sequences onscreen. Similarly, effects such as scents and wind will operate in accordance with the action onscreen. The second Attack on Titan compilation film, the live-action Attack on Titan films, and the Girls und Panzer film all used the same or similar technology in special screenings of the films alongside the conventional screenings.
JIN's Kagerou Project began as a Vocaloid song series that JIN wrote and composed in 2011. JIN launched theKagerou Daze light novel series in May 2012, with illustrations by Sidu. Kadokawa published the novel series' sixth volume in March 2015, with the seventh volume slated for August 29. Mahiro Satou launched a manga adaptation of the novels in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene magazine in June of the same year, and Kadokawa published the manga's eighth compiled book volume on March 26. The series inspired a 12-episode television anime adaptation titled Mekakucity Actors in 2014.
Yen Press publishes both the light novel series and manga in North America. The company published the novel series' third volume on January 26, and published manga's fifth volume on Tuesday. Crunchyroll streamed theMekakucity Actors anime as it aired in Japan.
