1st 40-page chapter set in Wales in 1944 debuts on May 28
The June issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Flowers magazine revealed on Thursday that Moto Hagio will publish the first of two new chapters titled "Haru no Yume" (Spring's Dream) for her Poe no Ichizoku (The Poe Clan) manga in the magazine's next issue on May 28. The new chapters celebrate both the manga's 40th anniversary, and Monthly Flowers' 15th anniversary. The first chapter will have 40 pages, and will be set in 1944 in Wales, as Edgar and Allan encounter a German girl.
The same July issue will also include "Hōmonsha" (The Visitor) and "Kohan ni te" (By the Lake), the previously published side stories to Hagio's The Heart of Thomas manga, as well as a talk between Hagio and Ryouko Yamagishi.
TV Asahi premiered a live-action drama adaptation of Poe no Ichizokutitled Stranger ~Bakemono ga Jiken wo Abaku~ (Stranger: Disclosing the Monster Incident) on March 27. While the suspense television series tells an original story, it still shares the same worldview of Hagio's original manga. The drama stars Shingo Katori, Ayami Nakajō, Yasunori Danda, Takuma Otoo, Masato Hagiwara, Takehiko Ono, and Touru Masuoka.
The original manga is a fantasy series that depicts several short stories revolving around a young vampire named Edgar who has lived for over 200 years. The original manga takes place in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Shogakukan published the manga's five compiled volumes between 1974-1976.
Moto Hagio's They Were Eleven, A Drunken Dream and Other Stories, A,A', and The Heart of Thomas manga have English releases. Fantagraphics, who published A Drunken Dream and Other Stories and The Heart of Thomas, will also release Hagio's Otherworld Barbara manga.
