Film about school concert band opens in Japan on August 20
The official website for the live-action film of Kazune Kawahara's Aozora Yell (Yell for the Blue Sky) mangaannounced on Friday that the film has cast Mirai Shida (The Secret World of Arrietty's Arrietty, The Wind Rises'Kayo Horikoshi) for the role of Yūka Mori, and unveiled a visual of the actress in costume.
Yūka is a third-year student, and Tsubasa Ono's (Tao Tsuchiya) senior in the concert band club. She wants to perform in Fumon Hall more than anything else, and practices to that end, but she ends up carrying an inner burden. Shida commented regarding her casting, "It's been a while since I played a high school student, but I think school uniforms still suit me. I can still wear them, but I want to perform roles more appropriate to my age. I want to take on new roles, so this may be the last time I wear a school uniform."
The film opens in Japan on August 20.
The story of the manga centers on Tsubasa, a girl who saw an inspirational brass band performance at the finals of the Japanese high school baseball championships one summer. Tsubasa vows to join the band when she enters high school, and she happens to meet a certain boy there.
