It might take a little while before your instructor starts assigning the Vertical translation of Nisio Isin's Kizumonogatari novel. However, in Japan, some lucky students are getting a chance to read the modern folklore mystery series' first book, Bakemonogatari, for college credits. A syllabus now making the rounds has shown that Hirose Masahiro from Aichi University of Education has included the book in the reading material for his Japanese literature course.
In 2014, Masashiro, an authority on Japanese literature and popular music, became the subject of otaku talk by assigning the Sword Art Online novels as reading material. He's also known for bringing up Tsukimonogatari in discussion of narrative tone and structure.
