The anime and manga series Fullmetal Alchemist ended a few years ago, but the series is receiving another film adaption. The last animated film, The Sacred Star of Milos, released in 2011. According to Crunchyroll a live-action adaption of the popular manga and anime will begin production this June in Italy. The film is scheduled for release in 2017 in Japan.
The movie is going to use a combination of real actors and CGI to help tell the story of brothers Alphonse and Edward Elric. This move may be necessary as the brothers are known for their metallic bodies. Edward has an arm and a leg made out of automail, while Alphonse’s soul inhabits a giant suit of armor.
Viz Media, the company that published the manga in the U.S. recently announced their own plans to enter live-action production. The company will produce multiple films based on the series in their library, although they haven’t announced which ones.
